Where we are
About us
Velvet Riot Films is a feature film production company founded by Rachel Forbes and Celyren Leckie. We were colleagues first, then friends, then business partners, and after years in the weeds making films together, building a company of our own felt inevitable.
Between us sits a decade of feature drama and documentary experience, and it shapes everything we do. We're female-led, genre-agnostic and all-rounder producers who are genuinely hands-on with every project and every creative we collaborate with. We're big on culture fit and vibe fit and believe the best work happens when the people making it actually enjoy working together.
We love working with ambitious writers, directors and creatives who are pushing boundaries, taking risks and making work that says something. We like to think we've got pretty great taste in film, too!
As the industry evolves, so do we. We're interested in the intersection of digital and theatrical storytelling and in finding new ways to connect stories with audiences without leaving anyone behind. We believe the future of filmmaking is collaborative, adaptable and creator-led, and we're building Velvet Riot Films to meet it.

Rachel is a producer based in Naarm / Melbourne with deep roots in Australian feature drama and documentary, working across development, production and post. Her work is driven by story: the kind that has something to say and the intelligence to say it well.

Rachel and Celyren bring over a decade of combined production experience in Australian independent film:
drama and documentary, features and shorts, development through to delivery.
Budgeting
Detailed budgets and finance plans for feature drama and documentary, including co-productions. We work in the Australian AZ format and inside Movie Magic. We know where money goes, where it can flex, and where it can't.
Applications
Support with Screen Australia, state screen agency applications, and other funding bodies. We know what assessors need to see. We also deal directly with the screen agencies, so we can assist with that relationship management too.
Offsets
Guidance through the Australian federal offset system: the Producer Offset, the PDV Offset, and the Location Offset. We can walk you through eligibility, documentation, and structuring, and we have relationships with people in the offset department who help us help you navigate it.
Development
Producer-led script development for feature projects. We work as producing partners, not editors, understanding what the project needs to get made.
Production
Hands-on line producing for features and longer-form documentary work. Crew, schedules, locations, and the ten things you didn't plan for.
Strategy
How your film reaches its audience: theatrical, festival, SVOD, hybrid. We're interested in where digital and theatrical actually meet.
